It all started with this recipe when I discovered a homemade BBQ Sauce that was super simple to make, tastes 100% better than any store-bought BBQ sauce we’ve tried (even Sweet Baby Ray’s), and it has no sugar.
Here’s the deal. We work hard to make meals that are wholesome and healthy but don’t often realize that sugar is hiding in the sauces and dressings we use.
That’s why I’ve been on the hunt to find the perfect recipes for the sauces and dressings we use regularly with our meals. Here is a round-up of 5 Whole 30 Sauces and Dressings recipes you can make at home all of which taste great and are healthier for you.
You can easily integrate homemade sauces and dressings into your meal prepping because all of these will keep for at least a week and some you can freeze.
Whole30 Sauces & Dressings Recipe Round-Up
What You’ll Need
BBQ Sauce
We use A LOT of barbecue sauce in our recipes (see Not Your Mama’s Meat Loaf and Lazy Spoon Homemade Burgers just to name a couple) so a good-tasting sauce has always been a priority. I used to simply look for store-bought BBQ sauces that were gluten-free but now I want one that is sugar-free also. When I first made the BBQ sauce from this Instant Pot Pulled Pork recipe I was AMAZED at how delicious it tasted. We still use that BBQ sauce recipe for our pulled pork but have also discovered this Whole 30 BBQ Sauce recipe by one of my favourite food bloggers, Erin Clarke over at Well Plated. I strongly encourage the dash of cayenne pepper; I think it’s the difference between this recipe tasting more like BBQ sauce than tomato sauce. Also, I typically don’t use Worcestershire sauce because it’s not gluten-free. You can substitute this with 1 tablespoon coconut aminos and 1 tablespoon fish sauce.
Ketchup
Ketchup is another sauce we use a lot around here but it is loaded with sugar. This Whole 30 Ketchup recipe is super quick and easy to make and will keep in your fridge for a really long time. Have a jar of this homemade ketchup on hand at all times!
Coleslaw Dressing
Coleslaw is in regular rotation as a side dish in our meal plans so it was really important for me to find a good-tasting homemade dressing. I remember my grannies making homemade coleslaw dressing but it had a heap of sugar in the recipe. This Healthy Coleslaw Dressing is tangy and sweet and will keep in your refrigerator for 7-10 days.
Ranch Dressing
While the farmer tends to go for an oil and vinegar salad dressing, I love Ranch dressing on my chopped salad. I also love using ranch dressing as a dip for raw vegetables and pizza. This Whole 30 Ranch recipe is super creamy and super easy to make. I could eat this dressing with a spoon!
Caesar Salad
There is nothing better than a garlicky Caesar salad alongside a perfectly prepared steak. There are only 4 ingredients in this Creamy Mock Caesar Salad Dressing but it’s light and tastes like the real deal despite being dairy-free, egg-free and anchovy-free. We make our croutons out of sourdough bread with a bit of bacon and parmesan cheese…so good!
Most of these sauces and dressings will last about 7-10 days in the refrigerator so obviously not as long as the store bought stuff but that’s because your delicious homemade sauces and dressings aren’t loaded with preservatives.
Simply add your sauces and dressings to your meal prepping routine and you will be levelling up your healthy eating each week.
