Happy Shopping! xo
We have been grilling on a Big Green Egg for about 4 years now and absolutely LOVE it. The BGE has been an awesome investment for us and has completely transformed the way we grill. This ceramic, charcoal barbeque stands up to all weather conditions…even Canadian winters on the prairies! It’s awesome for temperature control and getting the grill to that high heat perfect for searing a steak. And we love that distinct smoked flavour the BGE gives our food. It’s no wonder Michelin Chefs and foodies around the globe love this barbeque.
Top Tools for the Grill
1. Digital Meat Thermometer
You’ve heard me say this many times if you follow me, the Cooper-Atkins Digital Thermometer digital meat thermometer is crucial when it comes to grilling meat. My husband insists you can’t cook meat without a good meat thermometer. I can attest it works because he can take anything off the grill and have it cooked to the perfect degree of doneness.
2. Meat Shredder Claws
These are a handy tool for shredding pork, lifting a turkey or roast out of the pan or off the grill, and can also serve as a sturdy fork while carving meat. We just started using these Shredder Claws recently but they work like a charm. You can shred chicken or pork effortlessly in minutes. The tines are strategically placed so the meat doesn’t clog up and interrupt the shredding process. Plus, they are heat resistant, dishwasher safe and super inexpensive. These have been a great addition to our kitchen tools selection.
3. Cast Iron Fry Pan
This Skillet has a high heat capacity and once it’s hot, it stays hot. This makes it awesome for searing roasts and steak either on the stove or out on the grill. I also love it for one-pan recipes and frittatas. Or, if you’re craving campfire breakfast while at home in the city, throw the cast iron pan on the grill and fry up some bacon and eggs. There are many myths out there that cast-iron pans are delicate and hard to care for but I tend to disagree. Sure, you’re not throwing the pan into the dishwasher but caring for your pan doesn’t require too much additional effort.
4. Cedar Barbecue Scraper
This has been the greatest invention to replace a grill brush. With the Cedar BBQ Grill Scraper, you don’t have to worry about bristles from the brush coming loose and ending up in your food. And, this scraper actually gets better with time as the heat from the grill creates little groves on the end. You can use a cedar scraper on any type of grill without worrying about damaging the coating. It does a great job at removing the charred-on bits and grime from your grill. Throw that grill brush away and never use it again!
5. Stone Heat Deflector
This Stone Heat Deflector deflects the heat to the outsides of your grill to turn it into a convection oven so you can throw that roast, turkey or our meatloaf onto the grill without worrying about burning the bottom. Plus, this can be used as a pizza stone on the grill also! These plate setters come in various sizes and shapes so you can get the perfect one for your grill.
6. Electric Charcoal Starter
This Electric Charcoal Starter is the bomb when it comes to getting the charcoal started in our Big Green Egg. Simply plug it in, stick it into the coals and in minutes you’ll have those coals lit and heating up. No more fussing with lighter fluid!
Just for Fun: Meat Branding Iron
I admit, this little gadget is something we could grill without but it’s fun and makes a great personalized gift for your grill master. I bought my husband this Steak Branding Iron for our 6th wedding anniversary as the traditional gift of Iron. It’s a neat tool to use for special occasions or for taking pictures. There are many different styles of Meat Branding Irons to choose from on Amazon. Some have interchangeable letters to write personal messages, while others are simply one letter, like the W for our last name.
These tools are going to make their life on the grill a lot easier and take their grilling skills to the next level.
