I am so excited to be hosting my family for Christmas this year. All 13 of us (and possibly a couple of dogs) will cram into our little farmhouse to play Crokinole, eat way too much food, open gifts, and watch Toy Story 4 in our jammies.
Posted December 2019.
Not only am I looking forward to having my family under one roof for the holidays, I absolutely LOVE hosting dinner parties. I take great pleasure in planning the menu, incorporating a theme and, of course, decorating. This year I’m planning a slightly rustic and natural style with my Christmas decorating. Lots of greenery, wood, pinecones, and old rustic bells and stars with a bit of black and white buffalo plaid mixed in.
I also started playing around with my tablescape this week and I think I have it figured out so I thought I would take a few shots now before the family (of mostly boys) takes over the house and the beautiful tablescape is destroyed without a single picture.
I found the natural tree centrepieces and wooden candles at Winners a couple of weeks ago but there is a large variety of beautiful centrepieces and similar candles on Amazon as well.
I absolutely love the buffalo plaid cotton table runner and napkins. They are excellent quality and I can use them all year round. I decided to go with disposable plastic tableware because I don’t have a big enough set to serve everyone in the family and I don’t want to do dishes all evening. I know, not very earth-friendly but I’ll make it up to mother earth in other ways. I think the plates look great set on a rattan charger and black placemat. I added some pine cones, vintage metal bells, and natural wood slices to complete this look.
Not only have I designed a gorgeous tablescape for Christmas dinner, but I’ve also curated my favourite recipes. Look familiar? Yep, most of these recipes were used in my Thanksgiving Recipe Round-Up. It’s kind of ridiculous to have the SAME meal at Canadian Thanksgiving and then again at Christmas but, tradition.
We will spend the afternoon grazing from an over-sized snack board full of salty and sweet snacks and sipping festive holiday cocktails like White Chocolate Peppermint Martinis. We will pair our dinner with delicious wine and sit around the bonfire or curl up to watch Toy Story 4 sipping Vin Chaud. It will be a deliciously fun Christmas day with my family.

Wherever you are and however you are celebrating this Christmas season, I hope you are surrounded by those you hold most dear. Merry Christmas! xo
