The longer this pandemic drags on, the more we realize how much we miss dining out. One place my family and a lot of my friends like heading to for good eats and a casual setting is, Earls Kitchen + Bar.
Fun story! The Farmer and I met at Earls on a busy Friday night in June of 2011. He was in the city for a work meeting and I had met a girlfriend for dinner and drinks. He stopped by our table, made some lame joke but I fell for it, and the rest is history!
That booth has always had a special place in my heart. Even on our wedding day, we went back to the booth at the Earls where we met. That Earls location has since been renovated and our booth no longer exists, but I still think of that fateful evening and smile.
Living on the farm, we don’t get to visit Earls restaurants too often but it’s pretty much a guarantee that if we are in the city, we will be heading there at some point. The good news is, I have the Earls The Cookbook and I frequently pull it out to recreate some of our favourite recipes. You will not believe how many Earls dishes are in this cookbook! I also love the story the cookbook tells about the Earls family and the culture and passion that has made this restaurant a success for over 35 years!
Our Favourite Earls Cookbook Recipes
- Spinach and Artichoke Dip
- Guacamole
- Parmesan Dip
- Mushroom Soup
- Chicken Quesadillas
- Hunan Kung Pao
- Fettuccine Alfredo
- Key Lime Pie
But while you wait for your Earls The Cookbook to arrive at your door, here is a round-up of a few Earls Copycat recipes that I have found online.
So get out of that sweatsuit, do your hair and make-up, mix yourself a classic lime margarita on the rocks, make your favourite dish off the Earls menu, and enjoy a fun night in. Cheers!
Earls Copycat Recipe Round-Up
Chicken and Waffles
I’m starting with a recipe from the Earls brunch menu and I admit it isn’t exactly a “copycat” recipe but Chicken and Waffles has quickly become a family favourite for brunch. My mom just made this dish for my dad last weekend and they said it was delicious. If you have a waffle maker, some chicken drumsticks, buttermilk, and a box of corn flakes, you are all set! Don’t forget about the maple syrup!
Santa Fe Chicken Salad
The homemade peanut vinaigrette in this Santa Fe Chicken Salad recipe is amazing! The Food Dutchess (fellow Canadian, born and raised in Alberta) has a couple of Earls copycat recipes and I love how she has tried turning this delicious salad into a less caloric but still very delicious dish.
Chili Chicken
This Chili Chicken recipe doesn’t include the wontons but is still a pretty good copycat recipe of my personal favourite Earls menu item. Serve this sweet and spicy chicken on a bed of jasmine rice and it’s the perfect comfort food.
Warm Potato Salad
Truth be told, I’m not a huge potato fan but the Earls Warm Potato Salad is out of this world! When my son comes home for a visit he always requests this salad. It pairs perfectly well with Baby Back Ribs that you can make in your Instant Pot. Include a coleslaw on the side and you’ve nailed this Earls main dish.
Bacon Cheddar Burger
Back in 1982, 10 out of the 16 items on the Earls menu were burgers. Back then the Bacon Cheddar Burger was the main event. A hand-formed ground chuck patty was served on a freshly baked bun with lettuce, tomato, 4 strips of bacon and a thick piece of medium cheddar. Is your mouth watering yet? You can recreate this burger using our homemade hamburger recipe topped on a brioche or pretzel bun or you can make the Earls buns from scratch using the recipe in the cookbook.
You can try to recreate Earls french fries but there aren’t any that compare, in my opinion. Regardless, make sure you make the Earls Parmesan Dip for your fries. Yum!
I have a real craving for an Earls experience right now! I’m thinking tonight is going to be date night at our house, Earls style! How about you?
PS. Does anyone have the Earls Caesar Salad dressing recipe? Asking for a friend.
