These molasses cookies sandwiched together with your favourite flavour of jam are a delicious treat that’s going to bring back childhood memories.

My Grandma ‘B’ was an excellent baker. As a child, I can remember when we visited Grandma and Grandpa’s house there was always a variety of baked treats like cookies, cakes, and doughnuts. Some would be stored in old ice cream pails while others were arranged on a styrofoam tray and packaged to sell or giveaway.

My Grandma wasn’t only an excellent baker, she could sing and play any instrument you put in front of her as well. My siblings and cousins and I used to groan when she’d pull out the accordion or sit down at the piano but, truthfully, it was fun when grandma got the urge to jam.

My grandma has passed away, ten years after Alzheimer’s had stolen her from us. She would likely be mortified to know I posted this picture because Grandma took great pride in her appearance but this picture will always be so very special to me. It was the last time I saw my grandma before she died and, despite her mind having been robbed by the dreadful disease, I will swear to you her face lit up in recognition for a split second when I walked up to her that day. The memory is very dear to me.

I’ve tried a couple of variations of my Grandma’s original Jam Jam Cookie recipe and I think I’ve finally got it just right. My first attempt was with gluten free all purpose flour and while the texture was fine, there was something off with the taste. My grandma’s recipe also called for corn syrup but I’ve switched to molasses.

As a kid, I would eat these cookies with a giant glass of milk. Now that I don’t drink milk, I can tell you they taste great paired with a nice glass of red.

Enjoy!
