There are a few items we can’t live without when it comes to meal prepping. You will notice we reference these items A LOT in our recipes and on social media.
Here are our Top 5 Kitchen Tools we cannot live without and are available on Amazon.
Happy shopping! xo
1. Cooper Atkins Meat Thermometer
We cannot live without this Digital Thermometer. My husband insists you can’t cook meat without a good meat thermometer. I can attest it works because he can take anything off the grill and have it cooked to the perfect degree of doneness. This has become a great gift idea for our friends and family who love to cook and something we were just thinking we should add to our travel items list.
2. Spiralizer
Since I started limiting the amount of sugar and wheat I consume, a Spiralizer has become a staple in our kitchen. We make a lot of spiralized zucchini but this spiralizer is also awesome for butternut squash, beets, carrots, and potatoes too. If you are a huge pasta lover you will be pleasantly surprised how many excellent spiralized squash recipes there are out there. It’s cool to use the spiralizer to get creative with the vegetables you put in your soups and salads or on veggie trays as well.
3. Food Processor
I love this Mini Food Processor because it’s easy to pull in and out of the cupboard and can be tossed in the dishwasher. It’s great for dicing veggies, pureeing sauces or whipping up a guacamole dip. I can guarantee you this thing is being pulled in and out of the cabinet a few times a week.
4. Slow Cooker
I’m pretty sure this is a no brainer and that every household on the planet has a Slow Cooker. There isn’t a more convenient way to make dinner than to throw all of your ingredients into the cooker and let it do its thing while you head to work or lie on the couch watching Netflix. Truth be told, I didn’t always find slow cooking convenient. I mean, who has TIME to get everything into the slow cooker in the morning before work AND get lunches made, the dog fed and out the door on time? This is where meal planning has become such a vital part of our week. Now, I prepare as much as I can ahead of time during weekend meal prepping so all I have to do in the morning is throw it all in the slow cooker and go. There are also some recipes where you can actually refrigerate everything in the slow cooker the night before. So convenient! We’ve been eyeing up the Instant Pot® which seems to be all the rage right now. I know I’m pretty late to the party on this but they used to SCARE me. I’m pretty sure this will be our next purchase though. There are so many awesome Instant Pot recipes out there!
5. Cast Iron Frying Pan
This is another one of my husband’s favourite things in the kitchen. This Skillet has high heat capacity and once it’s hot, it stays hot. This makes it awesome for searing roasts and steak. I also love it for one-pan recipes and frittatas. There are many myths out there that cast iron pans are delicate and hard to care for but I tend to disagree. Sure, you’re not throwing the pan into the dishwasher but caring for your pan doesn’t require too much additional effort. And, if they are so delicate, why does grandma still use the one she got when she was first married? Am I right? With a few simple steps, your cast iron pans can last your lifetime.
