If someone would have told me eight years ago that I would be married to a cattle farmer and blogging about Food, Wine, Travel and Farm Life, I would have thought they had completely lost the plot! But this is exactly how my wonderful life has turned out.

I met my husband eight years ago at a popular restaurant in my hometown. I was a city girl building a successful career. He was a handsome, charming farmer from the prairies but it was love at first sight! We were engaged a year after we met and six months later I married my best friend in a beautiful Christmas ceremony. We spent 16 days in Italy for our honeymoon and had the most incredible time enjoying the food, wine, and Italian culture.

That was the beginning of a life adventure neither one of us could have ever imagined! Together we have discovered a love for food, wine, travel and doing whatever makes our souls happy. Life for us spans from Sundays on the farm doing chores and cooking a delightful meal together to spending two weeks in Central Europe on a WWII themed tour or floating around the Caribbean on a massive cruise ship. But no matter where we are or what we are enjoying together, there is always a bottle of wine involved.

My husband grew up on our mixed farm. He has always been committed to producing cattle, hay, pasture and annual crops in a complementary system that ensures a healthy relationship with the land. The challenge of attempting to produce beef and crops like flax, oats, and peas with minimal external inputs has been a strong motivating influence in the evolution of our farm. Let’s face it, farming has become a tough business but if you can discover an approach that provides a living and makes you feel good about what you are producing, that’s pretty awesome!

I am the proud mom of an adult son,  who’s building his life in another province (add empty nester to the list!)  and a massive fur baby, our Shiloh shepherd, Dooker. I never dreamed that I would be a country girl but, to be honest,  I wouldn’t trade the tranquility and breathtaking landscape of my new home for anything now.  We have been so lucky to have traveled to many countries and continents together but returning home always feels like a warm hug.

We try to focus on clean eating and clean living but we’re not perfect. We enjoy sinful foods (and wines) sometimes too. We don’t buy into one particular fad or trendy diet…we’re just trying to figure out what makes us feel good and are aware of when something is going to make us feel bad.

We work hard but taking time for ourselves and each other is our number one priority. There are many adventures still waiting for us out there and I can’t wait to share them with you! I hope when you visit me here you’ll learn, grow, giggle and feel inspired.

This blog has been a true labour of love and a creative outlet for me. I enjoy sharing our story and building this amazing tribe of followers, supporters, and friends. My thinking and skills have been stretched beyond what I could have ever imagined but I am so proud of what I have accomplished so far and look forward to where we are headed.

I really enjoy stories like yours. My wife is from Las Vegas, and I’m from a rural community in Nebraska. Although I’m not a farmer/rancher, there was STILL such a personal culture shock and wonder between us that it actually drew us to one another.

The heart wants what the heart wants, and it’s not looking for city or mountains or fields, but another heart that can share a life of love, happiness and even some craziness. So awesome you found what your heart needed and I wish you all the best.
